Oscar and Golden Globe winner
Did you know that Croatian film producer Branko Lustig was awarded the Oscar and Golden Globe film awards for the production of the American films Schindler’s List and Gladiator ?
Lustig studied acting at the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb, and worked at Jadran Film from 1955. In 1988, he went to the USA and received an Emmy Award for his work on the production of the miniseries Drug Wars: The Camarena Story (Brian Gibson, 1990).
He reached the peak of his career with the production of the film Schindler’s List (1993), directed by the renowned Steven Spielberg. As one of the film’s three producers, he received an Oscar and a Golden Globe. The Second World War as a theme had a prominent place in his work as a producer, as he had survived imprisonment in Nazi concentration camps during his childhood.
He established a successful collaboration with the renowned director Ridley Scott, and was executive producer and director of five of his films, Black Hawk Down (2001), Hannibal (2001), Kingdom of Heaven (2005), American Gangster (2007) and Gladiator (2000), the last of which won an Oscar and a Golden Globe.
